Hillarey Kriegler says
My favorite piece of Magic Zoo jewelry is my pewter Lab Head stud earrings because they are Magic! Well lucky may be a better word. I got them in early January. I have 2 dogs, a Lab and a Golden who I do AKC Agility with. Since wearing my earrings to competition I have earned an AXJ (advanced agility jumpers) title with my Lab that I have been working on for a long time. I have also earned an NA (novice agility) and NAJ (novice agility jumpers) with my young Golden. I am at a competition this weekend and my Golden placed First in both his classes today. I have been doing so well that I will not be going to competitions without them!
Merry says
Hillarey, that is spectacular! Maybe they are your “good luck” charms, but I suspect a lot more than luck is involved here!
Ruth Burke says
My favorite animal in your collection is the guinea pig. It is one you don’t normally find in the way of charms. I have two very distinct experiences with this animal. As a child we raised guinea pigs. At one time we had as many as 14. We used to give the babies to the pet shop when they all had babies. We would let them run in the yard .Each had their own personality.
Skip forward about 35 years. I am a Spanish teacher and visiting my niece in South American. She is studying in Ecuador for six weeks. We opt to go to Peru after her studies along with her sister. A Peruvian delicacy is the guinea pig! The trip was one I will always cherish as it was time spent with my nieces bonding. We had wonderful experiences and saw fabulous places (Macchu Picchu). It was one of those events of a lifetime.
Merry says
Wow, those are certainly 2 distinctly different sorts of guinea pig stories, Ruth! And it does sound like quite an experience.
Margaret Morandi says
My absolute favorite is your squirrel pendant! I discovered you only last year as I was searching online for a squirrel pendant because I love to watch them. They are such funny little guys and I get so much enjoyment from them. Your design really shows the personality the best and is just adoreable!! I came across others but yours was so much like the pictures I’ve taken of them here eating peanuts I keep on hand for them that I HAD to have it!! I LOVE IT SO MUCH!!!! I wear it everyday too. Thank You so much for your wonderful jewelry! 🙂
Merry says
Thank you for your story, Margaret! I’m so happy my pendant reminds you of your squirrels; my “model” for the personality lives in MY backyard!
Lisa says
I love ALL animals and have a thing for barn owls. I heard they bring good luck so I decided to buy a pendant. I searched on-line (and I mean searched) and I chose your site and ended up buying your gold (life like-but cute) barn owl pendant. I wear it almost daily and guess what??? After being out of work for 13 months I now have a job!
Thank you Merry for your beautiful jewelry and all you do for our animal friends and companions.
Lisa
Merry says
Lisa, when you ordered the pendant and mentioned it was for good luck, I remember thinking “I really do hope it brings her luck,” and now you tell me that it did! Hurrah!
Pat says
My favorite piece is your parrot lapel pin. It reminds me of my bird, Lucy. We bought her 8 years ago at a pet store. They told us she was a female and so we debated and talked and finally decided on Lucy for her name. Then, about 3 years ago, we brought her in to get her wings clipped and the guy doing the clipping said, “You’re calling him Lucy?” When I said she was a girl, he said, “No, girls don’t talk or sing like this.” Yes Lucy was singing the Andy Griffith Show song while getting clipped. Well, that day she turned into a Louie, but we still call her Lucy sometimes; it just pops out. Besides, she says, “Lucy good girl…” – Pat
Merry says
Great story, Pat! I know it can be hard to tell the female from the male parrots, but I’m glad you sorted it out.
Jimi H says
My Favorite Magic Zoo Design is the Ferret. There is not much Ferret Jewelry available. Often times they are cartoon type, Cutesy, but not for serious dress.
Your Design is realistic. It is so well designed that most people take a look at it and know it is a ferret. The pendant is made of high quality silver.
The Ferret is such a size it can be worn as necklace, used on a charm bracelet, or made into a conservative key chain. Plus you make them into earrings.
Your price is right. An Ordinary Person can afford to buy the pendant to give as a gift, not only to family but also friends.
If some one wants they can then have a matched set: necklace, earrings, and bracelet.
I have two one to wear most of the time and one I keep for dress up times. I have also given the pendant to some of my friends.
We Love our Ferrets: Whether they are Real or Nice Quality Jewelry.
The nicest thing of all about Magic Zoo Ferrets, is they never get sick or grow old. We can have our Magic Zoo Ferrets FOREVER.
Merry says
Why, Jimi, that is so nice! I love being rated right up there with the real thing…
Polly Mayo says
All of Merry’s designs are so creative and artistic but my favorite is her Scottie dog design. It’s a perfect silhouette of a spunky little Scottie with a full skirt that makes him look like he’s floating hovercraft ready to take on the world!!
Merry says
Hi Polly! I’m SO glad you’ve been enjoying your gold Scottie! And I love your description of it…
Ruth Johnson says
My very first piece of Magic Zoo jewelry, and my favorite, was an American Pit Bull necklace with matching earrings. I bought them at a show when my Bully boy, Milo, was home fighting cancer (after having come to the veterinary clinic as an abandoned gun shot victim several years earlier). Milo was a blood donor, therapy dog, sweetest boy and an ambassador for Pit Bulls everywhere. Maybe it’s my favorite jewelry because you just can’t find very many “bully breed” items and it’s beautiful, but also it’s because they look so much like my special boy. Just wearing the set makes me happy and reminds me of one of the greatest loves of my life. Isn’t that exactly what jewelry should do for a girl?
Merry says
This is such a touching story, Ruth. Thank you.
Jan says
My katz and I agree on the enamel kat jewelry as being the most colorful and best reprezentashun of their lovely selves. I must add that the Merry Zoo proprietress and her huzband are so grashus to have sold me a single earring when my green kitty face dropped from my less than clever paws, er hands, to the green floor and I could not see it. I should have had one of the kats put it on for me because their dexterity is superior az iz their eyesight.
Signed Jan, not the katz becuz they kan’t spel so good.
Merry says
Jan, I had no idea that “katz” were so literate! I hope you are now monitoring their computer use.
Jan says
When Mom’s away the cats will play. I hope a 500 pound order of catnip doesn’t show up some day.
Thank you!
Jan

I love that! My best wishes on that one…

Aimee says
My favorite piece right now is my guinea pig charm. Though I had a few “pocket pets” as a young girl, after graduating high school and getting a job, i now had lots more money to spend! I saw a cute little guinea pig in a pet store, and i just had to have one but I am happy to say I waited nearly two weeks to go back and get one, spending that time instead purchasing everything my new friend would need and learning everything I could about guinea pigs. Jesse became a wonderful addition to my life and lived for nearly 7 years, and I still miss him very much. I wear my charm in memory of him. Now I’m all grown up and work happily each day at a vet clinic where I’m a licensed tech, and my next purchase will be the kitty angel, since I recently lost another dear friend. Thanks for having such beautiful jewelry so we can share our love for the furry kind without saying a word!
Merry says
Aimee, thank you for telling me about Jesse! He sounds like he lived to a ripe (and happy) old age. And thank you for your kind thoughts about my jewelry.
Gretchen says
My black lab, Annie, passed away two years ago. She left behind two sisters and numerous kittybuds, not to mention a broken hearted Mom. I ask you Merry to make a piece of jewelry for me, one that looked like Annie. You, being the gentle soul you are, graciously said you would. I emailed some pics and in a short time I received a package. It was my Annie! It looked great! The grey muzzle and eye brows, it was her. This is and will always be my favorite piece of jewelry. Then there’s the penguin or the fat cat or maybe the dog bone key ring! Sooooo many to choose from! I love them all but Annie tops the list. Bless you Merry!
Merry says
Gretchen, thank you for such kind comments! It was an honor to make a special design of Annie for you.
Audrey H says
Lots of animals have lived in my house
But never ever a tiny little mouse.
A naked rat,
A 3-legged cat,
Prickly, beetle-loving hedgies,
Colorful, peeping, cheeping budgies,
Smooth, sleek, slithering snakes,
Thousands of gallons of freshwater tanks,
A scrawny doodle who thought she was big,
The plumpest, lovable guinea pig,
A parrot that had the gift of gab,
A grumpy little hermit crab,
An old breeder hamster named Repo,
A puppy picked up from outside of Home Depot,
A pair of finches, always a-twitter,
A lovebird, without a love, so was bitter.
While I’ve never had any pet mice,
I’ve found playing with them at work will suffice.
In every color,
They couldn’t be cuter,
So for Christmas this year,
My hubby so dear
Got on-line
And made quite a find,
The cutest pendant,
That has now been present
To bedeck
Around my neck
Every day
And let me say
It’s so realistic
And that’s what makes it my favorite!
Merry says
Wow Audrey, a poem! Thank you for taking the time to honor not only your many pets, but your Magic Zoo jewelry as well.
Annemarie Rhoads says
I’ve been a veterinary technician for 12 years and have a number of rescued animals. I do wildlife rehab as well. I bought a few pieces of your jewelry and love them all! I have 2 name tags. One has a Beagle on it in memory of my ‘Sadie’. The other has a dog, cat and iguana. I also have a gray cat charm in memory of my ‘Misty’ who passed away at 17. However, I have two favorites. One is my veterinary technician caduceus charm. I’ve never seen that design anywhere else! It’s very original and everyone always comments on it, so I tell them where to go! My absolute favorite would have to be my rainbow bridge charm. I lost my dog, ‘Chang’ to cancer last year, just 2 weeks before Misty passed away. I also lost my iguana, ‘Ned’, and this year, my 16 year old cat, ‘Sidney’. I wear that rainbow charm always and it gives me so much comfort. Being in rescue, you get your heart broken alot, and those two charms remind me why I do my job! Thank you for your beautiful work!
Merry says
Annemarie, I am so happy and yes, a little proud that I have been able to create a charm that can give you comfort. Thanks so much for letting me know.
Kay Person says
My favorite piece of jewelry is your “fat cat” pin/pendant…
I have received many compliments on it…
It was the first piece I purchased from you…
It is the silver cat sitting with it’s tail wrapped around it’s paws…
This is my favorite because when I wear it, I am reminded of my blessed kitty that passed away in 2010…
She was such a blessing to me because she followed me all over the house and slept by me and showed love towards me as much as any animal could…
I miss her so very much, but will always have her likeness in my necklace…
The chain is just the right length to hang near my heart…
I also own the pair of earrings identical to the necklace…
I love my jewelry very much- thanks to Merry…
Merry says
Kay, what a pleasure to hear your story…I am so happy you have your “fat cat” pin pendant in memory of your sweet kitty.
Deborah Armes, DVM says
I love many of your pieces, but my all-time favorite has to be the basic pawprint earrings and necklace. They make a simple, yet definite (not to mention elegant!) statement that says, “I love animals!!!”
Not only do I love to wear them (to do so, I have to change the wires to titanium or niobium though) , I have given several as gifts to much delight from the recipients. Just can’t go wrong with them either way. They go with virtually every outfit, and any animal lover of any type is going to love them. They also remind me of the clay-impression pawprints we make when a beloved pet/patient dies. Simple and understated, yet a nice tribute to those we’ve loved and lost.
Merry says
Dr. Armes, I love your comment about the pawprint jewelry saying “I love animals.” That is definitely why I designed them!
Tamara Walters says
I love my Vet Tech necklace from Magic Zoo. I wear it every day and never take it off. It helps keep me focused and reminds me what a great profession I am in. To go to work everyday doing what you love is a wonderful thing. I am honored to be able to take care of animals.
Although sometimes my work brings me sadness, I know I am always doing what is best for the pet. Sometimes helping them cross over is the kindest thing you can do for them.
My necklace reminds me each and every day to continue doing what I love and for that I am truly blessed.
Merry says
Tamara, Wow, your comment makes me proud! Thank you so much for sharing this with me.
Caroline Engrand says
My absolute favorite piece, is the Angel Dog pendant. You could have used my adored Piebald Dachshund as your model. My beloved Arges died in December 2008, age 4, during his second neck surgery. I had adopted him just 15 months before. He was my little boy, his mommy’s favorite. The pose of the dog in the pendant is so close to a photo of him asleep on my lap, as soon as you came out with it I had to have it. Thank you for helping me keep Argie close to my heart.
.
Merry says
Caroline, what a touching story. Thank you so very much.
Ruth says
I just love the Sheep Pendant. I have recently added sheep to my religious iconography to soften and focus my understanding of my role in the world.
To me, the sheep represent our dual role as sheep of God the shepherd, and to tend His sheep, ‘the least of these.’
I teach at a university, and I implore my students to take themselves out of the center of their universe, and to be considerate of others, to be tolerant of the views of others as they enter into dialogue. When we develop dialogue, relationship, and community, our understanding of the world expands and is enriched.
I would love to wear Merry’s Sheep Pendant as part of that message to my students. The one sheep I wear and others I have in my office elicit conversation on this topic all of the time!
As Gandhi says, “[We] must be the change [we] want to see in the world!”
Merry says
Ruth, I love the Gandhi quote, and could not agree more! Thank you for sharing your thoughts, and for acknowledging that my sheep pendant could be a part of that message.
Cherie Buisson says
I am a huge fan of your black and white cat jewelry. When I first became a veterinarian, I had a 2 pound tuxedo kitten with a badly fractured leg presented to me by a Good Samaritan. They gave me $20 to help with his care or “at least to put him down”. My wonderful boss decided he would give me the opportunity to fix this little kitten. I amputated his leg and then took him home for the night because I was afraid he would die. My family and I fell in love with him and he never went back to the hospital. “Jambie” (for the french term for three legs – trois jambes) developed lots of other health problems. He was also a bit mentally slow. But he was a gentle, loving cat who gave us much delight. We lost him when he was three, and although that was years ago, we all still miss him desperately.
Merry says
Dr. Buisson, what a fabulous story. Your little Jambie sure was one lucky and beloved cat, even though his life was short.
Margaret Cominel says
My favorite, in honor of my deceased husband of 30 years (who was also a Vietnam Combat Vet), was the gold squirrel charm, which I purchased for my daughter a year after his death. His nickname for our only daughter was “Squirrel”, and she called her Dad “bean” because he loved ANY kind of bean, whether it was green, brown, pink, red or white. She loved to tease him, and he her. My second favorite, of course, is the bean charm which is also worn by my daughter. It is hard when anyone loses someone so close, but much harder for a young child to lose a beloved parent. The Magic Zoo provided many of the charms I have bought since my husband’s death, and they are all treasured as ‘favorites’. My next purchase will be to commemorate the life of my beautiful red Golden Retriever, Sidney.
Merry says
Margaret, what an incredibly touching story. My best to you and your family.
Denise Baez says
My favorite is the black and white “tuxedo” cat earrings because my daughter (who is about to be deployed to the Middle East and I both love our sweet kitty, Oreo (who arrived at my office as a very young kitten in September), and one of my co-workers has a tuxedo cat herself. I also have a 2nd favorite, the calico earrings, ordered for a co-worker so she wouldn’t feel left out!
Merry says
Denise, my very best wishes for your daughter. I have some family there as well. (A favorite niece’s husband, who is a medic) I hope your little Oreo gives you comfort in her absence.
Doretha Jones says
I love your flying kitty angel with the tooth/heart!!! I have a tattoo of a kitty angel that reminds me of all the kitties that will be greeting me when I get to heaven over the rainbow bridge. There is a children’s book called “The 10th Good Thing About Barney” and the illustration in the book of the kitty angel is what my tattoo is from. Keep up your awesome designs, I’m a huge fan!!! Doretha “Dr. Meow”
Merry says
Hi Dr. Meow! Yes, I think you will love the kitty angels with the hearts, flying your way this week!
Suzann Spears says
I would have to say that my Skunk earrings are my favorite designs. How often do you see Skunk jewelry My Girlfriend and I happened upon those earrings at our Austin Armadillo Christmas Bazaar. We were going through the booth when my girlfriend exclaimed “Hey look at these Skunk Earrings.” The moment I saw them I was hooked. They are such a pleasure to wear – Fun! My Girlfriend knows that I love my bling – those Skunks have the same bling as Diamond Earrings to me. Who wants to wear diamonds when you can wear skunks.
Merry says
Suzann, I couldn’t agree more! I remember you both, and I am glad to hear the skunks have made such a hit…
Terri Smith says
My world just ain’t round if I don’t have my weenie dogs with me but I can wear your weenie dog earrings and I am a happy girl! I bought myself and my sister-in-law a pair for Christmas (she has a weenie dog too) and they just brighten up the day. I am hoping that you will add more weenie jewelry to your line soon.
Thanks for such a happy product.
Merry says
Hi Terri, some people just can’t get enough weenie dog jewelry! Do you know I have more of them than any other design on my site? Still, I predict some day there will be even more…
Terry Graham says
My favorite piece of Magic Zoo jewelry is the vet tech caduceus. This piece reminds me of how far I have come and what I can accomplish if I really try. I am a head injury survivor and I was able to rebuild myself so that I could go back to school at the age of 50 and obtain my vet tech degree. I wear this pendant on the same gold chain as my cross and everyday as it gives me the inspiration I need when I reach a stumbling block, or cheers me up when I remember what I’ve accomplished.
Merry says
Wow, Terry. You have my applause for what you have accomplished. And I am proud that my vet tech pendant is there to applaud your achievements.
Christie Mendoza says
Background–We have a great little white Schnauzer named Rafter…he is really my sister’s dog but is my buddy.
Our favorite piece is a special custom name tag—my sister was going through a hard time with school and health problems. She was doubting her abilities and whether she could really accomplish her dreams. So, one day I ran across the custom name tags and I order one with her name, pharmacist with a the paw print in a heart. Right now, it is on the fridge–that way, every day she can see that my mom, myself, and Rafter–love her and believe in her and that she can accomplish her dreams.
Merry says
Christie, that is so wonderful! Add me to the group that believes your sister can do whatever she wants to do in life. With such fantastic family support, I know she will make it.
Dorie Anderssohn says
I am a veterinarian, and I love wearing my dachshund necklace to work because I am guaranteed to see at least one weener that day. It can be a month with no dachshunds, then I wear it and they are everywhere. It always works. It’s MAGIC!
Merry says
Dr. Anderssohn, I love it!
Denise Taylor says
I actually have two favorites, for two very different reasons. The very first piece I bought from you, the hanging monkey. Since I no longer work with monkeys and they used to be such a huge part of my life it is very near and dear to me. The other is the greyhound pendant. Having had two heart dogs that were a greyhound and greyhound mix, this really helps keep them close to my heart. And currently having a whippet, he knows that it represents him as well, so it covers my furry friends very well. There is absolutely no way I could choose between the two of them as I hold them equally in my head.
Merry says
Denise, I know what you mean; it is impossible to choose a favorite among our beloved pets. I’m glad you worked out a solution to the dilemma!
Kathy Miller says
I was having a really rough week at work and my best friend of 45 years told me that somedays you just need a shell as hard as an armadillo’s to reflect those proverbial knives in the back. I did a Google search on armadillo’s and found The Magic Zoo and immediately ordered an armadillo pin… he’s become my mascot. He makes me smile when I’m having a rough day (or week)!
Merry says
Kathy, your story made me smile. We have never met in person, but my little armadillo is your mascot! I love it.
Clarence George says
My One and Only, impertinent wench that she is, claims that I bear a remarkable resemblance to a rhino! Little choice did I have, then, but to purchase her Merry’s terrifically rendered sterling silver pendant of that benign and burly beast. She named him Owen, and wears him with commendable frequency. Indeed, on a recent trip with her parents to the Holy Land, he was stunning on a black-shirt background. And I have the photos to prove it.
I vote for Owen the Rhino!
Merry says
I love your style! You have a very lucky wife…
Danielle Legg says
I purchased the silver pig earrings, along with the sheep, chickens, frogs, dragonflies, and the pewter pigs. My first purchase from the Magic zoo was inspired by the pigs at farm Sanctuary, and the belly rubs they absolutely LOVED to get. Kim Gordon and Bob Harper were the inspiration, tiny piglets that were SO adorable! And there was Truffles, one of the most beautiful girls on the farm. The earrings actually look JUST like her! I sponsor Bob Harper Piglet through the adopt an animal program. Since meeting Kim, Bob, Truffles and all the pigs on the farm I wanted a little reminder to keep with me. The silver pigs were a perfect piece for just that. I’ve even met a new little guy, Riley. All rescued from cases of cruelty, and now at Farm Sanctuary, they will be safe and loved for the rest of their days. I am proud to raise awareness for them, and for the work that Farm Sanctuary does in rescue, advocacy and education about farmed animals. I love my earrings because they start conversations about two of my favourite things, The Magic Zoo Jewelry, and Farm Sanctuary where my favourite piggy friends reside. – Danielle Legg
Merry says
Danielle, do I really rate right up there with Farm Sanctuary? Wow!
Kit Jenkins says
Of my many pieces of animal jewelry, my favorite is your “fat cat” pin/pendant. The versatility (pin or necklace today?) makes it a great travel piece, and I always receive compliments on it. It was the first piece I purchased from you! You were exhibiting at a conference on the day after I lost my very special cat, Evinrude, and I was missing him terribly when this pendant caught my eye. It has his comfortable shape, fluffy tail, and sweet expression. Evinrude was a therapy cat and shared his enormous purr and world-class belly with thousancs of special-needs children and adults. Wearing his “memorial pendant” reminds me of that cheerful side of all cats…whether they want to admit it or not. >^..^<
Merry says
Kit, I am so glad my pin/pendant is a favorite of yours. It sounds like it commemorates a wonderful kitty!
Becky Bonilla says
I still love my first piece. I bought the pitbull pendant at the Armadillo Christmas Bazar in 2006. I wear it every day and get many compliments. My dog is my pride and joy and I feel closer to him when I have to be gone from him. This charm looks just like my Bubba. Most pitbull charms have the ears cut, Merry made it with floppy adorable ears. I’ve already order the matching charm bracelet. I have purchased the greyhound, yorkie, and black lab for my family members. They love them. These are great gifts for animal lovers.
Thank you Merry, for making this beautiful charm. Keep up the great work.
Merry says
Hi Becky, and thank you so much! I love hearing that your pit bull pendant helps you feel closer to him when you aren’t with him.
Bette Reese says
~ My First Piece of Magic Zoo Jewelry is still my favorite! ~
You cannot imagine my surprise and delight when my veterinarian gave me a small silver box containing the most adorable pug head necklace from Magic Zoo. I wear it almost constantly and soon after receiving it, was purchasing little treasures from Magic Zoo to give to others as a gift. It’s so much fun to see the same delight on friends and family member’s faces that I felt when I received my first Magic Zoo necklace. The pug dog face pendant is still my favorite item and I receive many compliments from other dog-people when wearing it. I always tell them about Magic Zoo and their huge assortment of creative dog, cat and other animal jewelry that’s available.
Thanks Magic Zoo!
Bette Reese
Merry says
Bette, I’m so happy you’ve been enjoying the pug jewelry! And thank you for telling me that your friends love theirs as well…
Libby B, says
I love the ferret charm, and necklace. They are the perfect likeness to those wonderful playful little weasels. I work at a zoo that has one; we use to have two, but our little Loki died 2 weeks ago. It was a very sad day for us.
Your ferret jewelry is a wonderful memory of my baby.
Thank you
Libby Breen
Merry says
Libby, it is so nice to hear that my jewelry reminds you of your sweet Loki. He must have been a mischievous one to have that name!
Chris Powell says
Love the Schnauzer head — lost my Sam last year due to a vet leaving a
Sponge in him after surgery. This way I have him close to my heart 24/7!
Merry says
Chris, I am sorry for your loss, but glad my Schnauzer jewelry has given you some comfort.
Diana Forrest says
My daughter (6 years old) picks the Calico Cat Earrings, and I agree, although they look more like kittens to me. My daughter says, “It’s my favorite because it’s my favorite animal and grandma has her own calico kitten.” I say, “They are delightful and capture the spirit of play. They make me want to chase something. Like a butterfly in a sunny meadow. They remind me to get off the computer and go outside.”
One of the best things about animals is that they remind us to stop being so busy and human sometimes and just go indulge in enjoyment. One of the best things about your jewelry is that same reminder. I don’t know how many words that is.
Merry says
Diana, Great response! Your daughter sounds absolutely precocious…
