My 2024 summer has been a bit wild, and I’ve been doing a lot of traveling. But I’ve also been thinking about you! In fact, I’ve got some new designs I’m pretty crazy about.
This little fuzzy, playful looking Maltese puppy pendant is one of my new favorites. I’m so happy to share it with you now!
It’s kind of cheeky the way it looks over the shoulder, inviting you to play, Maybe toss that ball for a good chase? That’s what it reminds me of, anyway!
My other new designs will be appearing soon. But each one has to go through a rigorous photo shoot, and that can sometimes take a while. I promise I’ll get them up soon. I don’t want to tell you what they are yet, but they both involve popular breeds complete with angel wings!
Here’s What Else I’ve Been Up to!

Also new in my life… I have re-ignited a second, “shadow career” as a folk singer. Because you’ve been with me for a while, I thought you might be curious about this other side of things. This past April I played at a talent show in my nearby town of Mountainair and after that I landed another gig (one I’m getting paid for!) at a much bigger show on August 24th.
So, at the ripe old age of 73 I’ve been working hard to get my voice back in shape (Did I ever tell you I was an “up and coming” folksinger in my 20s?) I’ve been practicing hard over the past many months, because I need to play for an entire hour later this month. That, my friend, will be a good workout for these vocal cords!
It is my first paying gig as a musician in over 50 years. And I will be appearing with my beautiful mountain lap dulcimer, the exact same one I used to play at gigs 5 decades ago. The sound on this old instrument has really mellowed over the years, and I’m looking forward to sharing it with my fellow traditional folk song lovers.
So who says an old dog can’t at least re-learn some “new tricks.”
Tell me what you are doing in your spare time! Any hobbies you’ve been enjoying for your entire life, or maybe just came back to after a few (or many) years?
I’d really love to know. Oh, and I’d love it if you comment here and tell me to “break a leg” at my gig on August 24th!
Your Animal loving Artist,
Merry
P.S. Don’t worry, I’m not off to star on any big stages anytime soon, anyway. As far as I know, creating animal jewelry will forever be a part of my life!
Have fun at your’gig’!
Good luck on your gig on 8/24. I wish I could be there to see you.
Break a leg!
Now that I am partially “retired’ (do veterinarians ever really retire?!) I am seriously contemplting going back into singing(great earlier life times ) and playing my French Horn so I congratulate you and wish you all the best! Also would really love any new Boston Terrier designs and bats!
Martha, you should totally do that! I am having great fun, and have yet another gig in October! – Merry
Love that new Maltese puppy! Tempted to break my long tenure with Silkys & Yorkies & get a Maltese, just to justify purchasing some of these newbies. Actually, my vet has 2 Maltese, so ….
My last 25 years drew me away from high tech and into volunteerism and assistive technology for people who have disabilities or are aging.
They are super cute dogs, Dallas! Good idea! – Merry
So happy for you! That’s great news! Break a leg!
Thanks so much, Laura! It went very well! – Merry
This is totally awesome!! I’m 72 and not fearful of striking out on a new activity or re-establish an old one. Good for you and I love your new design!!
Congratulations! Carol
Thanks, fellow seventy-something-year-old! That’s right…nothing to lose and lots to gain! – Merry
Love the 2nd career! Do you have a small poodle pendant?
Anna, so sorry I just received this reply…my email has been a bit screwy, hopefully fixed now.
Yes, I do have quite a few poodles…type “poodle pendant” in the search box and they should all come up! – Merry
Hey, Merry, it’s your friend Joyce in Valrico, Florida! Just wanted to wish you luck in your new endeavor…won’t say “break a leg,” because the last person to whom I said that actually did! Anyway, hope we get to hear you, maybe on YouTube? Looking forward to seeing your new creations too! 🙂
Oh, thank you so much, Joyce! It went very well, and now I have another gig in October! Yes, fun stuff. Thanks for your well-wishing!
Super fun! We might be driving cross-country next summer so be sure and post your schedule. Would love to see and hear you sing! And the new designs are very cute. I did a cartoon greeting card for beloved local restaurant reopening and my crow was doing similar over-the-shoulder look 🙂
Hi Denise! Sorry for the delay in answering you…my email was a bit screwed up for a while. I do hope to get a website up and then be able to post a schedule, if I get to that point! I am mainly interested in performing at Celtic festivals, rather than bars, so who knows! I have another gig in October, so I am keeping up and still playing. Playing my guitar again now, too!
I would love to see your crow drawing! Sounds adorable.
Merry
