The Magic Zoo makes dental profession jewelry? Yes, I know that sounds unlikely, but I have actually created jewelry for dentists, hygienists and their staff for over 30 years! In fact, if you are a dental professional, I have a 15% off coupon for you. Just enter NMDA15 at checkout through midnight, Sunday May 31st!
Most of my customers know me as the “animal jewelry lady.” And it’s true…I’ve created almost 2,000 animal related designs.
So…why do I make designs (including name badges) for dental offices, too?
To answer that, I have to go way back in time…
Roll back 30 plus years, when I was young, sprightly, and actually made a living selling my jewelry door-to-door to businesses! This was in northern California, in beautiful Marin County in the mid 1980s. And WAY before anyone had a website, including The Magic Zoo!
I lived with my husband and 2 young children in the heart of Mill Valley, on a hill above the original Mill Valley library. (Rumor had it that this old brick building made an appearance in a 1950s horror movie called “Invasion of the Body Snatchers,” but Wikepedia now disagrees.)
At this time and in this historic location, I tried to figure out how to help support my family. My husband was working for a non-profit, and I had been working part time as an artist creating jewelry for a designer in Florida.
More than anything, I wanted to make my own original designs. I knew I would make more money selling my own work directly to customers rather than selling my designs to another artist. Besides, I had total confidence in my ability to succeed.
As a long-time animal lover, I naturally started out making only animal designs.
But…Dental Office Staff Loved The Magic Zoo, too!
As I made the rounds of businesses in my northern California neighborhoods, I found out that some of the friendliest and most welcoming of all were the personnel in dental offices. They invited me in. They looked over my creations. And if they weren’t too busy, they bought my pins, earrings and brooches.
These dental professionals also asked me if I could make some dental-related designs. I thought about it. What could I create?. Tooth fairies, for sure. Smiling teeth earrings. Toothbrush pendants and charms. Why not?
And I did. I didn’t leave the animals completely out, though. So I made both a dog tooth fairy and a cat tooth fairy!
Over the years, I expanded my dental line of jewelry. Now I have over 40 designs created just for the dental professional.
And this profession has continued to be a big supporter of The Magic Zoo. So feel free to check out all of my dental designs, and feel free to suggest any other dental design ideas you might have. I get some of my best jewelry ideas from my customers!
