Smiley, a blind golden retriever who had become a beloved celebrity in Canada for his work as a therapy dog, has died. Smiley’s owner, Joanna George, announced that he was recently put to sleep three months after being diagnosed with cancer of the stomach and liver.
Smiley spent most of the 15 years of his life comforting patients at hospitals near his home in Stouffville, Ontario, as well as seniors in nursing homes and children with autism.
