Poodle Intelligence September 12, 2008 By Merry Leave a Comment One of my mom’s favorite dog stories had to do with a poodle. Mom loved all animals, and she collected her own observations like sea shells. When she told me this story the first time (yes, there were many others) she had a hard time getting through without laughing. Mom had macular degeneration and her vision was fading. On this occasion she was waiting to see her doctor, along with several other patients and their Seeing Eye dogs, all of them golden retrievers. When the door opened and a sophisticated 40ish woman walked in with her standard poodle all the golden retrievers stood up, like a row of enraptured males. That just tickled my mom- she did an impersonation of the leering retrievers, which added immeasurably to the performance. And she told me that poodle made a beautiful Seeing Eye dog.
