Do you love handcrafted artisan jewelry? There is something special about handmade jewelry, including all the little variances and inconsistencies. Factory created, computer generated jewelry doesn’t have the same look, and never will. I compare it to listening to live music versus something created in a computer.
Handcrafted Artisan Jewelry for People who Love Animals
I bet we have a lot in common. Like you, I have always been fascinated by animals. Combining that animal love with an affinity for art goes back a long way with me. I remember sitting around the kitchen table drawing cartoons with my siblings, petting the Dalmatian as he strolled by, and cuddling the tabby cat.
Although it was many years later when I began to create my own jewelry, I still loved to make things as a child. Clover chains to wear around my neck and wrists, handmade earrings for Mom made from acorns, play dough characters that we kids created and used to put on our own little shows. My parents were both artists, so we were surrounded by things of beauty.
Since the age of 6, when I announced that I would be an artist when I grew up I have been creating. When I discovered my talent in making animal jewelry, my life really changed. It has been a joy to make a living as an artist, and I believe most artists who have been this fortunate would agree with me.
By the time I was in my mid 30s, the desire to go full time as an artist came to fruition. I remember the moment of that decision. And I never looked back.
Casting my Handmade Jewelry
Around 2001 I discovered that my jewelry could be cast in precious metal. Using a small company in New England, I began designing jewelry that could be cast in sterling silver, gold, bronze and pewter. Now I was actually helping to create and keep jobs for Americans, and my casters were helping me by freeing up my time so I could design new jewelry.
Every Magic Zoo original creation is still made by me, by hand in my studio, and now that I have a country home in New Mexico, I am inspired more than ever by the nature that surrounds me.
And lucky for me, I have thousands of devoted fans around the world that I continue to interact with – some of them have been Magic Zoo customers for over 20 years!
I love hearing from my fans and customers, so if you have a particular design you would like to see me create, don’t hesitate to get it touch! You never know…your idea might become the next Magic Zoo design!
