A couple weeks ago we learned that Jeff Corwin
of Animal Planet fame would be coming to the Clearwater Library to give a talk
and do a book signing. I thought he might enjoy a Magic Zoo name badge, so I
designed one with a coral snake wrapped around his name. I figure even if he
never wore it, he could stick it up on the fridge. But can you believe it? We
forgot to take a picture of it before I presented it to him!
Take my word for it- it was a great looking name tag.
Jeff was kind enough to pose for a quick photo, and it’s a
good thing my eyes were open because we only had one chance. There were
hundreds of Tampa Bay
area citizens waiting to hear him speak, and Ed and I had to sit in overflow to
hear his talk.
He told how he got started as a naturalist by exploring the
wooded area where his grandparents lived in New England
(He grew up in a city environment) I could really relate to his description of
discovery when lifting up a rock and seeing all the teeming life and life leftovers
in that moist environment.
His hour long talk was crammed with great animal stories
told from his unique viewpoint and wonderful sense of humor. This man really
works hard at what he does, as an entertainer, conservationist and naturalist.
It was an honor to meet him, and I’m happy people like Jeff
are on the planet.
