We recently took a trip to Denver, and had a rare free afternoon before the show began. We drove outside the big city for a few miles, up to a small mountain town. As we rounded a bend in the road, we were treated with the appearance of a large herd of elk casually grazing right by the road!
I’d never seen elk so close by, and was amazed at how their bulk and carriage compared to the mule deer in California. (I’m familiar with them.)
These guys had no fear, especially in comparison with those big eared, timid plant eaters in the Sierra foothills.
I really enjoyed the dichotomy of Florida vs. Colorado. It’s amazing that a person can hop on a plane and be transported from semi-tropical lushness to alpine forests in less than a day!
