Did you know that April was Canine Fitness Month? It’s true!
Spring is a fabulous time to get out and exercise with your pooch. At least they can keep up with you! Me, I only have cats, one of which LOVES to take walks. But I constantly have to make sure she’s following, since her legs are pretty short. And according to many, we live in the middle of nowhere.
But I digress!
There are some great ways to get out and have fun with your 4-legged pal…
Try these Fun Canine Fitness Routines:
- Plain old walking. And while you’re at it, look at the trees, houses, mountains, desert, buildings or whatever environment you happen to live in. There’s nothing like looking at things both far and near while moving down the road (or sidewalk)
- Active play, like stick throwing, frisbee throwing and so on. You can even join your pet for a little jog to retrieve what you’ve thrown!
- Hide her daily treat allowance so she has to work for them a bit. The canine version of hide and seek.
- Make an obstacle course inside by moving rugs and chairs around or do the same outside with various objects. That’s probably a bit easier. Then both of you can jog or move fast in and around the obstacles.
It is said that 20-30 minutes a day of movement is what your dog needs. And that can’t hurt us humans, either.
Happy Canine Fitness month from The Magic Zoo! What’s your favorite canine fitness activity? I’m sure there are some great ones I haven’t covered here so share them below in the comments!
