I was recently in East Greenwich, Rhode Island visiting my sister Holly. There I learned an interesting fact. Her grandaughter Sara Kate (not quite 3) has great affection for goats.

Holly thinks goats are a little wierd (and they do have those crazy eyes), but I don’t mind them. Sixteen years ago when we lived in the Santa Cruz mountains near Los Gatos, California, there were some fat little minature goats on the next property over. When they saw my daughter Cedar and I walking down the road to get our mail, they’d trot to the fence for a pet. I remember hard little skulls with coarse salt and pepper hair butting up into our palms.
What really interested me about Sara Kate’s goat fondness is that our own grandaughter (not quite 2) also feels great affection for goats. Besides an occasional petting zoo encounter with the real thing, Ada’s favorite stuffed animals are the well loved and used “Momma goat” and her offspring, “Baby goat”.

I like to read your blog about different animal things. Some other kids who like goats are the ones in Sudan who have a very hard life because they can drink the milk to not starve and they can trade the goats for things like medicine and clothes. I raise money to buy goats for the kids in Sudan. From Cassidy
