Yes, I am a mom. But my little boy is now in his mid-40s.
David is kind, handsome and one of the all-around sweetest men I know. He’s been there every day for me during these very challenging past 4 months. He’s not only held me when I’ve wept over Ed, but he also unfailingly laughs at my corny jokes. Plus he married a woman (Diana, wearing the blue dress) who is now one of my very best friends! It doesn’t get much better than that.
And of course, he is now one of the engines keeping The Magic Zoo running smoothly.
David is also a Dad, infinitely patient with his 3 children, all of whom are unique and exciting people in their own right.
For Mother’s Day, we had a delicious brunch, with pastries both sweet and savory, melons and home-brewed coffee and tea. Diana, my daughter-in-law picked a beautiful bouquet of purple wild flowers and iris to grace our family table.
Followed by Hikes and Other Fun Stuff…

After brunch, we hiked some nearby trails, spotting a herd of deer on the way there and noticing a late spring rattlesnake (warming itself) on the road coming home. We did NOT hit the snake, but carefully swerved around it. I hoped the other drivers traveling this road were as cautious.
Back home, relaxing and awaiting dinner… ravioli and pesto from Trader Joes, spring salad with mandarin oranges. For dessert, cheesecake with both butterscotch and chocolate sauce, whipped cream on top, finished with a handful of fresh raspberries. Yes, we certainly treated ourselves!
I’d never seen the movie Twins with Danny DeVito and Arnold Schwarzenegger. So we rented it and watched it on our newly installed home movie set up. Surprisingly sweet! And of course it was all about finding a mother, so it was very appropriate for the day.
I hope your Mother’s Day was a marvelous one, too. What did your family do to celebrate?
Your animal loving artist,
Merry
Dearest Merry,
Thank you for sharing the beautiful family
photo & your fun Mother’s Day activities.
I had a wonderful day celebrating with our twin daughters here in TX, one which flew in from CA.
I’m so glad you have been surrounded with love these past 4 months.
Love, Betty
Hi Betty! So nice to hear from you. Why did I not know you had TWIN daughters? That’s so great. And happy your Mother’s Day was a happy one.
What a wonderful post, Merry! So glad you had such a great Mother’s Day surrounded by amazing family! <3
I was treated to a champagne breakfast in bed and both kids were home. The weather was stunning in a way only the Pacific Northwest can be on a spring day. My husband made Alaskan king crab, scallops (which my son helped cook), Chilean sea bass, asparagus, and rice pilaf, with a very tasty shrimp ceviche from Costco on the side.
Wow! Sounds like you had an AMAZING Mother’s Day! I’m sure you deserved it! – Merry

Oh, that is so sweet, Elaine! I hope we can get together sometime before too long. Love you both. – Merry
I had a wonderful Mother’s Day. My youngest son and his girlfriend took me and my mom out to lunch. We both got a bouquet of flowers and some gifts. It was the best Mother’s Day I’ve had in awhile. I’m so proud of my youngest son.
Sounds like your son is a “keeper” Bonnie! What a great Mother’s Day you had. – Merry
So glad you had a happy Mother’s Day! You deserve the best!
Oh, thank you, Cheryl! It was a good one for sure! Merry
My Mom is 92, and my Mama Rosie, mom in law, is 90. They are good friends, so we drove Mama Rosie over to Mom’s, and had tea and conversation. I was glad that they enjoyed their day. We took a scenic route home, and enjoyed all the flowers that are currently in bloom her; mostly iris, but poppies, tulips, and phlox are also brightening our landscape. I’m glad you had your family to share and make memories.
I love that! SO wonderful your “2 moms” are such good friends, too. You sound like a spectacular daughter and daughter-in-law, both! – Merry
