“Should we go to the water this morning, or down the trail?” This is our daily morning question.
“The water,” I said. That was the right decision all right. By the time we made it to the shore, a whole gang of beautiful pink spoonbills were straining for delicacies in the low tide. When I say “a whole gang” I mean four. That’s a lot of spoonbills all in one place. I can never get enough of these gloriously colored waders. I stood and watched them for 5 minutes, trying to soak up their image before we turned around to head up the hill towards home.
Spoonbills are related to ibises, and the lovely roseate spoonbill ranges from here in Florida through much of South America. Lucky us!
