Do you love cats? I have been creating kitty jewelry for close to 30 years now. It’s hard to believe, but very true! In fact, the very first design I created was of a black and white cat, also known as a tuxedo cat. However, most of the cats that have been in my family have been tabbies. There’s just something about those stripes.
You may wonder why I don’t have a tabby jewelry design on my website. Well, it has nothing to do with this i love cats person. It has more to do with the photographer! (He doubles as my husband) We have so many things to do in running our business, that getting up new designs on the website can sometimes take quite a bit of time. Not an excuse, but it is the truth!
In other words I do have a new tabby cat design, both in pewter and in enamel. And one of these days you’ll be able to see them as well. If you have been to any of my shows, you’ve probably seen my little tabby cat earrings and necklaces in my jewelry booth.
I love cats; no matter their outer packages. Torties, black and white, white, brown, black, striped, tailess, fat or thin. I really love those furry little purrers, and would have an entire herd of them if it weren’t for one little problem…
I’m Allergic to Cats!
It’s not a terrible allergy, but annoying enough to keep me from having a kitty for the time being. One of these days I’ll get it sorted out for sure. But in the meantime, I will just keep my i love cats tendencies in check and concentrate on designing more cat jewelry instead.
What exactly is a cat allergy?
A small section of the population in this country (around 10%) have a pet allegy. And more times than not it is a cat allergy. Life is so unfair!
But it isn’t kitty’s fur that causes the sniffling and sneezing. It’s an allergy to the proteins in their saliva, dried skin and urine. Strange, but true.
How about hypoallergenic cats for the I love Cats crowd?
It’s a nice thought, and it is said that the hairless sphinx is sort of hyperallergenic. But since the proteins are still found in this kitties urine and saliva, it doesn’t completely solve the problem.
At an art show once another artist had her Rex cat in her booth, and told me it did not make her react allergy-wise like other cats did. So perhaps that could be a solution. Plus all those tight curls are pretty darned cute!
Maybe it would work as long as they were only an indoor kitty and you could keep them warm.
Are you an I love Cats Person?
If you love Cats, and have allergies, how have you solved it? I am only intereseted in natural solutions, no drugs. I’m sure there is a way!
In the meantime, I get my kitty love fix by admiring them from afar, and by designing all the cat jewelry I have time to design! That is a true love of mine, and I meet lots of lovely cat people this way as a side benefit.
Oh, and stop by The Magic Zoo sometime to see my cat jewelry!
