Ibis scurry across our neighbor’s lawn like a small herd of dinosaurs
from Jurassic Park. They are so common I don’t think twice about their
appearance.
Sometimes I have to remind myself that not everyone steps out their front door for a walk, every few blocks another animal world adventure. My sister just visited me from Ohio and I watched my surroundings through her eyes this time.
Sometimes Holly took her walks solo, and she’d return bathed in sweat and reporting on the latest sightings. “That pelican hangs out in the same place everyday. He must have a good fishing spot.” I didn’t ask her how she could be so certain it was the same one.
I introduced her to my window sill lovers, the delicate female anole lizard and her handsome warrior, who is growing back a lost tail. He stretched out his glorious red neck just as she spotted him.
New England is a beautiful place to live, but sharing my Florida with Holly had its rewards.
