Suzette, one of my customers, sent me this wonderful story about her pit bull Vito:
“I acquired “Homer the Homeless” at 5 weeks old.
Having a 14 yr old Golden Retriever, I really did NOT want a puppy. Let alone a
pit bull.
There was a 2 week deadline to find Homer a home. Well as the story goes…Vito is 4 yrs old and is my very best friend. He had “golden” shoes to fill and has stepped up to the plate in every way.
My golden had 4 obedience titles so Vito has had strong obedience training. We also train in advance agility and have even started to compete at trials. We have earned several Qualifying and 1ST place ribbons. I teach Basic Obedience and guess who is my DEMO dog…Vito!
As a responsible dog owner, I believe in socialization and consistent positive reinforcement in and during all venues of a dog’s life. Of course, the mere sight of Vito is frightening to some and we will never change their minds. We go to all the area demos on agility, parades and events sponsored by Upper Suncoast Dog Training Club in Clearwater, Florida.
To know him is to love him. I have even taken him to Career Day at my granddaughter’s elementary school to speak about Vet Tech/Veterinarian careers.
My mission is to show the public that wish to hear, that not all Pit bulls are the fighting killers that you hear about in the news. How many dogs do you know that sleep upside down in a Sleep Number bed…#35!!
Thank you for allowing me another way to promote this loving and family oriented breed. They are lovers not fighters and are very family oriented.”
