Way back in the day, I made dragon jewelry. Friendly dragon jewelry. They were a popular design then, and I’ve missed including them in my collection these past 25 years.
My dragons were made from teal-colored polymer clay. They had cute little wings, a friendly face, plump tummies and (not sure why) purple stripes. Not like any dragon I’d ever seen. After all these years, I still think of them with fondness.
So, what the heck. Why not give my little dragon new life? After all, with a company called The Magic Zoo, I thought that would be appropriate.
Introducing Lulu
Starting with this sterling silver dragon, I’ve decided to give all of my fanciful designs their own names. This one is called “Illusion”, “Lulu” for short.
And Lulu has opened up all sorts of possibilities for me. In fact, I just created a new category called “Fantasy and Extinct” animals. And that’s where YOU come in!
Your Ideas, Please!
Often I depend on you to tell me what you’d like to see me make next. (“Next” being a relative term, since my closest window for making new designs will be after the holidays).

My daughter-in-law (also my lovely model for most of my designs) has put in her vote for a Dodo bird. Amazingly enough, there are dodo bird jewelry designs out there on the internet. Which is a good thing! It means people do search for that.
I Need More Hours in the Day…
But what about dinosaurs? Passenger pigeons? Extinct marsupials? My imagination is pretty good, but if I add your creative ideas to mine, how can I lose?

It’s hard to restrain myself from plunging right in, right now. “But really (I tell myself) you don’t have time to start creating now. The holidays are around the corner, you have to build up your stock, order more supplies, reorganize your studio, blah blah blah.”
All true, of course. But…you just never know. At this moment, I have a blob of modeling material on my desk enticing me. I’ll leave it there for now, but if I get itchy fingers, anything could happen.
Oh, if you do think of some ideas for me, see if a name pops into your head, too. Doris the Dodo for instance. I think a Dodo looks like a Doris. Not that alliteration is a requirement.

The coming winter will be a long one here in New Mexico. But it warms my heart to think of making magical creatures so those snowy months in the mountains pass by creatively.
I can’t wait to hear your ideas!
Your (Real and Fantasy) Animal Loving Artist,
Merry
Fairies, Gargoyles, Elves for Christmas, I have others I just have to get back with you.i don’t know how to spell them. Lol.
Great suggestions, and completely unique! Thank you, Noelle! – Merry
I love Lulu the dragon. Thank you for bringing her to life.
Ah, thank you so much, Helen!
Well, of course if we are talking about mythical the first thing that comes to mind is the unicorn and Pegasus which are closely followed by the Yeti or Sasquatch. As far as extinct, the saber tooth tiger and wooly mammoth are what come to mind first. I’m sure there are other unique ones out there but those are just what pops into my head first. The names would depend on the character you would put into them and so would reserve names until they are seen. Have fun! Will enjoy seeing what you come up with!
Great ideas, Katrina! I hadn’t thought about a sabre tooth tiger or woolly mammoth, but I’ve added them to my list. I have investigated doing a unicorn, and not sure about a Sasquatch, but you never know! Thanks so much. – Merry
Love Doris the Dodo!!
I would also enjoy:
Griffin the Gryphon
Cornelia the Unicorn
Snuffy the Wooly Mammoth
Ooh, great ideas and names! I am so excited about this new project. But like I mentioned, it might be a while. Cornelia the unicorn is perfect!
Love “Luna”. What an awesome design. I purchased some of your “cow” charms as gifts for my niece who is in 4H. She loved them. Have you ever thought about designing a “gazelle”. Fascinating creature. Extremely fast running and graceful. I researched the gazelle when we started teaching the Dave Ramsey “get out of debt” classes. My husband teaches the student version to high school students and we teach to adults evening courses
Ramsey message is “If you think of a gazelle as it moves, the two key factors are the effort level and the breakneck speed. Implementing gazelle intensity means being very proactive and quick about paying off your debt.”
I actually purchased small token plastic gazelles to give to our students.
Of course, I am not sure what the market would be for a gazelle, however, I would purchase one!! I would not be able to purchase for our students as we volunteer our time for the classes we offer and generate no income.
Wishing you a wonderful day.
Janet, I am very familiar with Dave Ramsey and my husband and I implemented his debt pay off program some years back. I wonder if a gazelle might be something his followers might enjoy? Yes, gazelle intense is the way to do most anything! I’ll think about it, and thanks for the idea! – Merry
