Ada and her mom took us to the Lowry Park Zoo in Tampa recently. Ada knows her way around- she goes there at least once a week!
We started the adventure with a carousel ride- Ada straddling a large wooden manatee, gripping the pole and noting out loud with serious precision every “Up” and “Down” as we spun around.
Next we followed her running through the tunnel to the place where you can feed the giraffes. I thought it awesome (and I never use that word!) to stand next to this massive gentle creature and have him deftly pick up a biscuit with a blue prehensile tongue right from my fingers!
Afterwards, we got to see adorable little “Baby Dumbo” and “Mama Dumbo” plus a bunch of friends and relations in the elephant display. (The names, of course, are Ada’s.)
I finally got to meet Ada’s friends- the goats. Their job in life seemed to be patiently receiving pets- mostly from crowds of affectionate toddlers. They were very good at it, too.

At some point, Ed trailed off with his camera and managed to get some pretty good shots of other zoo inhabitants. (At age 2, Ada still has her limit of displays to visit. I look forward to exploring all the nooks and crannies of the Lowry Zoo with her.)
If you live in the Tampa, Fl area (even if you aren’t a doting grandmother) you should check out this wonderfully interactive zoo!
