Now most of them are of specific animals, but I do have one of a paw print and another one that is a simple pewter bone key ring. That, I think, is perfect for a dog lover or breeder. And I should say that quite a few women use them as well. Why not? We all have to keep our keys gathered up in some fashion or other, and a rubber band isn’t all that classy looking and tends to break a lot.
I love pewter; it’s my new favorite medium. Not only is it affordable, but it looks a bit like silver. So thus far, all of these are done in this medium.
One of the novelty key chains I especially like is this helpful rabbit design. Why helpful? I looked at his little bunny face and thought he seemed eager to hold those keys. This one is also a nice shape, roundish and comfortable to hold and grab in your pocket or purse.
Most animal lovers I know (and I know a lot of them) either have dogs or cats as companion animals. My bright idea was to combine the two of them in one design, hence the dog-cat combination key chain.
A large number of my animal loving customers work in this area as professionals, thus the veterinary caduceus keychain and the veterinary technician key ring. It’s true I love making new things for people in the veterinary profession; maybe I get a little carried away on this point because I have more designs specifically for them than for any other group of people. But key chains are useful for this group of no-nonsense pet lovers.
I think key chains are cool. You can have a number of them for different groups of keys, you can have any kind of design, and they can fit in a small space and then be hung on a nail or someplace where you can easily find them.
They make it harder to lose your keys. Can you imagine if keys were like loose change? I have enough trouble misplacing my glasses. I tried to google the history of key chains but got nowhere. Did businessmen in Victorian England have key chains? I bet so, probably just a big round ring to put all those long skinny keys on.
My custom key chains are fun- that was my purpose; to come up with a way for animal lovers to carry their key around and stay in character.
